Successful teams first define the problem they are trying to solve—they articulate it, they give it boundaries (what?s part of the problem, what?s outside our control). They call upon designers to help cull, visualize, and express that problem in human terms— looking at it from many different views.

STEP BACKGROUND
The first step was to make a list of prominent designers with ethnic, geographic (within the Bay Area), and gender diversity. Tharp and Helikon's Creative Director, Rebecca D'Attilio made a list of thirty designers who they wanted to work with. From this list the BASOC directors made a "short list" of twelve to represent the bid year of 2012.

STEP OUTCOME
All twelve designers were then asked to donate their time to this effort and all accepted.
